Subtonomy Sets Emission Reduction Targets through SBTi

Subtonomy has set a science based ESG target and commits to a sustainable future

Telecom industry accelerates ESG efforts to meet sustainability goals

Telecom operators are increasingly focusing on environmental targets as part of their ESG (environmental, social and governance) commitments. ESG measures and reporting are not only mandated by regulators and governments, but also used to attract investment, align to customers’ demand for sustainable products, and to reduce operational costs. The GSMA, for example, has conducted research that demonstrates ESG initiatives minimize the cost of capital, deliver better operational performance and boost stock prices.

Operators are significant consumers of energy, and so a major focus in the telecoms industry has been on shifting to renewable energy sources, implementing energy-efficient equipment, optimizing network operations and encouraging decarbonization in supply chains.

Subtonomy helps operators meet ESG targets and commits to a sustainable future

As a provider of software and data solutions for telecoms, Subtonomy is proud to announce its commitment to reducing emissions through the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), aligning with the Paris Agreement’s climate goals.

The SBTi is a globally recognized climate action framework that helps companies establish and validate science-based emissions reduction targets. Founded by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the initiative defines best practices in science-based target setting and independently assesses companies’ targets.

Science-based targets are emission reduction goals in line with what is needed to prevent the worst impacts of climate change, according to the latest climate science. They show companies how much and how quickly they need to reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, in order to keep warming below the most dangerous levels.

Subtonomy’s emission reduction targets for scopes 1 and 2 have been validated through the SBTi’s SME streamlined route exclusive to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). Subtonomy AB has committed to

  • reducing scope 1 and scope 2 emissions from its operations by 42% between 2023 and 2030

  • measuring and reducing its scope 3 emissions.

This commitment is consistent with what’s required to keep warming to 1.5°C – the most ambitious goal of the Paris Agreement.

“By committing to these targets, Subtonomy is taking an active step towards supporting its customers, as well as creating a more sustainable future for everyone,” commented Andreas Jörbeck, CEO, Subtonomy.
